“Madrid Court Rejects Claim
June 16th, 2011

During the past few weeks I have been the subject of a number of articles in newspapers including The Mail on Sunday, The Sunday World, The Guardian and The Mirror. The Mail and World portrayed me as being behind a big swindle of £13 million pounds, all without any foundation whatsoever.

These articles were all based on a claim being brought to court in Madrid by lawyer Antonio Flores.

It was clear to me from the beginning as I mentioned in my previous blog that the purpose of these articles and claims by Flores were to make me pay up and the newspapers took the bait.

As chairman of Peterborough Football Club I am aware of the responsibilities to the fans and supporters, players and everybody associated with the club. I know how damaging these type of articles can be – hanging over me and the business of running the club.

Today I can announce that the claim Flores presented in court in Madrid on the 3rd of June was rejected/thrown out on the 7th of June, Flores was notified on the 10th of June.

It took 4 days for the court to reject the claim.

I want to thank all the people who supported me including the fans and a number of journalists who could see it clearly for what it was, a hatchet job.

I am in communication with my lawyers regarding these articles and the newspapers concerned.

Darragh”

Since this post the Peterborough Evening Telegraph have posted similar story on their website Here..

“Posh chairman in Spanish legal battle

Published on Thursday 16 June 2011 04:02
THE boss of Peterborough United has spoken to lawyers about reports in national newspapers about his Spanish investments.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said that claims, which had been made by a lawyer, had been rejected by a court in Spain.
He said the process had taken four days to complete.

Mr MacAnthony”

Editors Note: The case was simply moved, by the courts, from Madrid to Marballa – “Today I can announce that the claim Flores presented in court in Madrid on 3rd June was rejected/thrown out on 7th June“…..  Bare Faced Liar, Spin or Deluded?

How I deal with extortion, blackmail and media persecution

The reason for writing this article and posting it on my website and giving it to the local press is because to be honest with you, I’m fed up and had enough of the nonsense written about me on the web and in fact by the media when it suits them. I am also fed up with constant unfounded allegations, lawsuits and blackmail.

In the coming days the Mail on Sunday or some other media outlet will write a story and its headlines will be along the following:

‘Posh Chairman has criminal action filed against him in Spain’

‘Peterborough United’s future under threat’

‘Fraud committed by Posh Chairman’

Like everybody knows, most journalists are only interested in selling newspapers, and they won’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. With the recent promotion, we are newsworthy at the moment, and as such the journalists come sniffing around again.  I have had experience of it before.  They ask me for my comment but whatever I say to them, they twist it to support the story they are peddling.  It’s not just me.  I have had the conversation with many others in my line of work, and they all tell me to just ignore it because any sensible people don’t believe the rubbish in the papers anyway.  However, I have decided that enough is enough.

Since buying the club nearly 5 years ago, this has been a constant irritation. Its got to the point where my wife suggested that maybe I should sell the club and just walkaway from it entirely as if you Google my name, it appears I am about as popular as Osama Bin Laden or Gadaffi at the moment. Without knowing me or anything about me, you would think I am a criminal mastermind and someone who has been found guilty of fraud on a grand scale or dodgy by nature. The press love to harp on about freedom of speech but the reality is that anyone of us could go on the internet, hide behind an alias and post that our neighbor or boss is a pedophile and there is no recourse what so ever and in some cases no way to get this slander removed.

MacAnthony goes on to Libel the corruption campaigning  Spanish Lawyer Antonio Flores and publishes confidential e-mails… between Antonio and Lisa Buckingham OBE, Editor at the Financial Mail.

He then goes on to insults and libel one of his very own victims, Michele Norcup, who just so happens to be one of the MRISG members  instrumental in bringing the criminal case against MacAnthony in Spain.  She should seriously consider engage Carter-Ruck to take him to court for his very public lies about her.

Have the Peterborough Evening Telegraph been bought?  No story appears in the one paper most people would have expected it to appear,  after all he does own the local football club – Peterborugh Football Club (POSH) so does he also own the paper too….?  Could that be the real reason for the Peterborugh Evening Telegraph, apparently, trying to keep the bad news stories out of their small town paper?

The founder and top executives behind former holiday home giant MRI face legal action in Spain after hundreds of Britons allegedly lost money estimated to amount to £13million.
Dubliner Darragh MacAnthony, who owns Peterborough Football Club, which has just won promotion to the Championship, set up MacAnthony Realty International (MRI) in Marbella as the Millennium began.
Hugely popular on the British market, MRI boasted a £100 million annual turnover before the credit crunch. As well as property development in Spain, MRI marketed villas and apartments in Morocco, Bulgaria and Cape Verde, where the company also arranged furniture supplies.

But now MacAnthony, 35, and his former joint chief executives, Michael Liggan and Dominic Pickering, have been accused of ‘theft by swindle and misappropriation of funds’ in a claim filed in Madrid by 60 British and Irish claimants who say they lost more than half a million pounds in undelivered furniture five years ago.
Lawyer Antonio Flores of Marbella- based property solicitors Lawbird, accused MacAnthony of failing in an obligation to file for insolvency for his Spanish companies.
